What are they thinking?

How  the Obami can continue to write things like this amazes me:

“This irrational exuberance was, of course, unsustainable. But it helps explain why the Obama administration is disappointing many Democrats, even though the president is poised to pass health care reform, has avoided any major foreign policy setbacks, and has not had to endure a debilitating White House scandal. For all the liberal anguish over Obama’s new Afghan policy and the death of the public option in the Senate health care bill, these presidential shifts in direction were not explicit violations of campaign promises.”

Let’s count the ways this is wrong, shall we.

Poised to pass  health care reform; that the American people despise 3 to 1.

Has avoided any foreign policy setback; if you ignore the failed “reset” with Russia, the support of mini Chavez in Honduras, the eroding support of our staunchest allies the United Kingdom and Israel, and the continued flirting with the regime in Tehran as it crushes democratic dissent in the streets.  But yeah, other then that, no foreign policy setbacks.

Has not had to endure a debilitating White House scandal; Like Anita “Mao Lover” Dunn, avowed communist green jobs czar Van Jones, police acting “stupidly,” seemingly endless ethics and lobbyist wavers, etc.

And, for the finale:

For all the liberal anguish over Obama’s new Afghan policy and the death of the public option in the Senate health care bill, these presidential shifts in direction were not explicit violations of campaign promises.

The Afghan policy President Obama explicitly ran on, “Bush took his eye off the ball in Afghanistan,” and his avowed support of single payer before he ran for President.

Everything in this column is false, besides Mr. Shapiro’s conclusion:

Did Obama, just four years removed from the Illinois state senate, feel the same way as he contemplated waging two wars and rescuing an economy teetering on the abyss? Or is Obama’s self-confidence so entwined with his personality that he is incapable of imagining failure? After 11 months in office, Barack Obama remains — more than any president in memory — an enigmatic figure who defies easy categorization.

An enigmatic narcissist who is incapable of imagining failure.  Yep, that sounds about right.
