The attempted destruction of Northwest flight 253 on Christmas day is at least the second, and possibly the third terror attack on United States soil this year, and the President is nowhere to be seen. This from a man who has spent more time on air, from “special” town halls to spots on late night television, than any other President in history. But when it really matters, when the Unites States has just been attacked by an Islamist terrorist bent on killing Americans (the fact that he failed means nothing), the President can’t find the time to address the American people.
He’s on the golf course, after all.
I have no problem with President’s playing golf, and thought that Bush retiring from the game was excessive, if sincere. It’s hard to fault the leader of the free world for wanting the peace and tranquility that comes with blue skies and green fairways, but it demonstrates a failure of leadership on Obama’s part, as he seemingly abdicates his number one responsibility as this nations Commander in Chief. When Obama wants to scare you with tales of evil insurance companies and dreadful GOP straw men, you can’t escape the power of his oratory, but when you need the reassurance of the President against a real and present threat, he’s nowhere to be found. This is a microcosm of the entire Obama universe.
The Obami have rallied around their sophomoric leader, insisting that the system worked just fine, and that it was “hardly a first-order national security threat,” since only 300 or so American’s would have died anyway. This is wishful thinking that borders on criminal irresponsibility; the same mindset that will let this jihadi lawyer up and keep his mouth shut, rather than face some Cheney style backroom interrogations that could reveal his co-conspirators and their future plots. I fear for the safety of the American people with this shallow and unserious man at the helm.
But hey, he’s got a great handicap.
UPDATE: Right as I was finishing this post, the President actually spoke to the issue; 3 days later, with much hand waving and calls for “investigation.” He looked and sounded like he didn’t want to be there, which, given this Presidents record on the war on terror man caused disasters, is probably true.
