But you know what could stand to be a bit more conservative? The Bible.
Talk about your oximoron, I think I'll stick to those translations that were Divinely inspired. If these people think that the Bilbe was written down and translated from the original Hebrew into the Greek and then into English by people who put their own interpretation into the Scriptures ought to watch the "How do we know the Bible is true?" series that I have mentioned on this web site before. Any disciple who was there and their disciples that sat under their teaching also knew of the governing body and how it worked, even if the Roman justice system was corrupted against the Jews, they knew that eyewitnesses were an essential part of court proceedings. Therefore; this is why they wrote, as they did in 1 John 1 (NIV)
1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
Thus they said they saw, heard, touched, were willing to testify to the very risk of being put to death and were put to death, that what they said was true. I don't know about yourselves, but I don't think I would just let someone set fire to me if what I was telling was a lie. I'd be doing the backstroke faster than a politician. As for the translators, sorry to much superstition in those days, and if I believed that an all knowing God could strike me down with a lightning bolt at anytime and wasn't just some forged peice of metal and even if not but would send me into a lake of everlasting fire after I died, I sure wouldn't see if I could get away with twisting a few scriptures around just to see if He would miss it. "Let's see if I can turn the World astray, by changing the words a little, God won't mind!!" Not only would they be afraid, they also would have nothing to gain. It's not like translators were getting rich, and especially not translating the Bible.
