I was out sick all weekend and missed the fact that Iran is in flames, with hundreds of thousands (at least, Time magazine places the number at 2 to 3 million) of protestors taking to the street after a rigged election kept Ahmadinejad in power. Armed government agents are attacking, and in some cases opening fire, upon the demonstrators.
The White House Response to this is officially silence. Joe Biden said on Sunday “We are waiting to see. We don’t have enough facts to make a firm judgment.” Translation: we are cowards who cannot label evil when we see it. Yes, we know the election was rigged, yes, protestors are being savagely beaten by theocratic thugs, but hey, who are we to judge?
Fucking disgraceful.

“On Saturday, the New York Times quoted one unnamed senior Administration official to the effect that the election uproar would cause Mr. Ahmadinejad to be more receptive to Mr. Obama’s overtures as a sop to disgruntled public opinion. If the Administration really believes this, then Mr. Obama is the second coming of Jimmy Carter and the mullahs will play him for time to get their bomb.”

“The White House’s refusal to officially question the result or even condemn the brutal suppression of opposition protestors, is undermining America’s standing as a global power, and is little more than a face-saving, cynical exercise in appeasement that will all end in tears.”
