*Mike M, this seems to be your area of expertise. Martin Feldstein, Harvard Professor and former Reagan economic advisor, warns against tax increases that could “kill any chance of early and sustained recovery.” He lists cap and trade, the increase in tax rates for the top 5%, and the new rules for taxing foreign-source income. And, surprise, the poor will be the hardest hit by these taxes. How progressives can continue to tout themselves as the party of the poor escapes me. Every public policy based on their utopian vision, whether it be cigarette taxes or cap and trade, hurts those below the poverty line the most, while those eeeevvvviiilll conservatives are accused of hating the poor, because they favor a low tax, non-intrusive federal presence. Exactly the kind of presence that would allow lower income earners to keep more of their own money. An educated electorate, we are not.
