Recently brought to my attention; thanks Tribwarrior; new policies will not allow ammunition manufacturers to purchase 1-shot ammunition casings from the DoD. Instead, the brass will now be shreaded and sold as scrap metal, mostly to China, at a lower price than the ammunition manufacturers were paying for them. Read the full story on The Shootist.
The problem here is multiple fold, the government will now have to spend more money to shread the used brass and then sell it for less because it’s obviously not worth as much when the shells are able to be reloaded. Not a very intellegent economic decision on top of taking business away from American companies! The other issue is that it is going to increase the cost of ammunition to the consumer. Along with the administration’s proposed 500% tax on most ammunition, they are really trying to make it hard for Americans to own and operate firearms.
