News Round Up 5/01/09

*Interesting.  Volokh wonders why the 9th circuit ruling that the 2nd Amendment binds local and state governments has gotten zero MSM press coverage.  It has long been obvious that the dinosaur media, despite their claims of objectivity (All the News That’s Fit to Print, etc.), are really only interested in reporting news that pushes their own cultural/linguistic narrative.  In this case, the narrative is that guns are bad, gun owners are stupid rednecks, and that the 2nd Amendment only protects the states right to form a militia.  Because this ruling does not fit that narrative, but instead reinforces the Supreme Court’s ruling vis a vis Heller, there is little to no coverage.  Shocking, I know, but ask the New York Times how that’s working out for them.

*Charles “The Doc” Krauthammer takes Pelosi to the woodshed in his latest: Torture? No, Except…

“Today Pelosi protests “we were not — I repeat — were not told that waterboarding or any other of these other enhanced interrogation methods were used.” She imagines that this distinction between past and present, Clintonian in its parsing, is exonerating.

On the contrary. It is self-indicting….

…The members briefed on these techniques did not just refrain from objecting, “on a bipartisan basis, we asked if the CIA needed more support from Congress to carry out its mission against al-Qaeda.”

More support, mind you. Which makes the current spectacle of self-righteous condemnation not just cowardly but hollow.”

Emphasis mine.

“The GOP base already regards Democrats as terrorist-coddling communists. Are they going to all join militias?”

Fucking Commies.

*Heh.  That $13 “tax cut” you’re seeing in your paycheck these days, touted by the Obama administration as the fulfillment of his campaign promise to cut taxes for those making under $250k/year.  Yeah, about that
